Elizabeth Manley was of 1820 stock that settled in Manley Flats in Grahamstown.
Could she be a descendant of Thomas Manley who was one of the Liversage Party
of British Settlers? He was 35 years of age when he left England. His wife
was Margaret, aged 30, and they had seven children under the age of fourteen
originally listed to come to South Africa but only 3 emigrated. Ralph 12, John
10 and William 2. Liversage gave a succinct explanation for this reduction in
the number of the Manley's family: " Some are ded and is frends take the other"
The Liversage Party left Liverpool on the ship "John" on 13 Jan 1820 (p.35) or
13 Feb (p. 87) The reached Table Bay on the 19th April and Algoa Bay during May
1820 Ref: The Settlers Handbook by M.D. Nash.

He was a Burgher of Cape Town
Notes from Andre Kellerman:
Henry Leeuwner Aspeling was born in 1812 in Cape Town. He was christened on 27 Aug 1838 [RLA questions this date] in Cape Town, St George's Anglican Church. He died on 13 Aug 1869 in George Town.
Baptism witnesses: Frans Christian Bam; William Shortman. Native of the Cape. His date of birth, as given here is taken from his own baptism- at age of 26 years- when he was entered as Henry Levener. The names of his parents do not appear in the baptism register. According to his Death Notice he was born in 1815. His names appear here as entered on his Death Notice. In other records, however, the spelling of his second name varies. At the time of his marriage it is Leuner and at the baptism of his children it is Levner, Levener and Levenaar. In all enteries in St George's Church, Cape Town his surname is spelled Aspling. Bachelor at the time of his marriage. Mason from George Town at the time of his death. Death Notice signed by the mark of his surviving spouse. Signature in Marriage Register.BIRTH: He died 13 August 1869 at the age of 54 years in June 1869. so his birth would be about June 1815
BIRTH: His date of birth, taken from his baptism register, (He was 26 years old when baptized 27 Aug 1838 [Ref Baptism Register A1939 1/1/3;-]) is 1812.
BIRTH: If Anna Louis duToit, wife of Hendricus Leonardus Aspeling and his mother, died one day after the birth of her youngest son, Henry Leeuwner, it would mean that his birth would have been 10 Feb 1807
BIRTH: The birth of this guy is a moving target !! The only thing that seems to be consistent is the date of his death.
