Son of Joseph Bain of Tipperary Ireland, an 1820 Settler. Michael died on
06/02/1868. He married in Grahamstown, on 11/25/1844, Maria Fancutt (nee Talbot)
who was a widow of Grahamstown and the daughter of John and Priscilla Talbot.Source 2.

he died at his home, Buffalo Thorns division of Queens Town, near Sterksdroom
village. He was a trader at the time of his death. The bains moved to Fort
Beaufort in 1854 to the queenstown area when this town was started. They were
traders at Buffalo Thorns and owned a farm in Sterkstroomdistrict, now named
"Grass Ridge"

was aged nine when he emigrated and Maria Talbot was five. Could they have been

was found. On the third day her father found her asleep amongst the kopjes on
Stone Hills Farm, over three miles from home. Asleep from sheer exhaustion,
terror, hunger and thirst. She was carried home suffering from exposure and
croup which resulted in bronchial and chest trouble, which affected her heart.
The heart condition caused dropsy to set in and Eunis could no longer walk,
but spent the last months of her life in her old pram in the day time. Eunis
passed away in her sleep on the 5 August 1922, just nine days after Lois was
