Bella Jane Black was only 6 years old when her mother died and all she can
remember was her mother lying in bed while she brushed Bella's hair.5.
Col. Stratford's letter came as rather a surprise as I had always been led
to believe that my grandmother's maiden name was Lewis. Until I can get
positive proof of her maiden name I have taken the liberty of giving her the
surname Lewis-Stratford for the sake of convenience and record keeping.
Col. Stratford derived the information from Mary Ann Black's death
certificate which was signed by W.H. Black. Hopefully, when and if I receive
documentation from Father Fahey in KWT, and a copy of the death certificate
from Pretoria this puzzle will be resolved.
